Abstract

Seven resident sportmen took over the shooting rights from the Duke of Portland on various of his estates or manors and met at The Green Dragon in Mansfield to draw up 26 by-laws or rules. Rules cover annual dues; membership; behavior of keepers; penalties; restrictions on dogs and guns; forbidden birds (black grouse and hen pheasants); length of season; and guests.
